Estimated effect of aortic root aneurysm size on the risk of complications (rupture, dissection, and death) in Marfan syndrome patients. *, part of the hump between 4 and 4.75 cm is due to the skewed recognition of dissected patients in a small size range that would not normally be imaged. Our prior work on the “aortic size paradox” (24) indicates that because the tail of the bell curve thickens at smaller sizes, the relative rate of events is higher.
