Friend virus infection leads to activation of macrophage-stimulating 1. Spleens and livers of naïve and Friend virus (FV)-infected wild-type (WT) and knockout (KO) mice were removed 7 days after infection (dpi). Next, mRNA was isolated, and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to determine the expression of macrophage-stimulating 1 (MST1) in the liver (a) and MST1 receptor (MST1R) expression in the spleen (b). Proteins were isolated from spleens, and the pro-form and activated isoforms of MST1 were quantified by Western blot analysis (d). Expression of MST1 was normalised to ACTIN and is depicted in comparison to naïve control animals of the appropriate genotype (d). Data were analysed with Student’s t-test (mean + SE). n = 3. *P = 0.05.
