A target penalty function used in the calculation of TCI with different values for ${\sigma }_c$ and ${\sigma }_h$. The penalty function does not penalize the plan if the target dose lies in the uniformity window. If the target dose is higher than a maximum dose or lower than a minimum dose, a penalty will be enforced based on the magnitude of dose‐volume violation and the type of violation (hot spot or cold spot).
