Extension of the modular synthetic platform. Structural variation of the arene and decalin component enabled rapid extension of the natural products library and provided access to several non-natural analogs that were previously inaccessible via semi-synthesis. Each of the shown molecules depicted was prepared in seven or fewer steps starting from iodide 25 or aldehyde 33. Color coding was used to indicate the decalin stereochemistry (coding: blue, cis-decalin; green, trans-decalin) and to highlight the modified arene component.
