Transfection with purified viral RNA is sufficient to increase expression of MICA and ULBP2 mRNA. Fibroblasts were transfected with the indicated quantity of cytoplasmic RNA isolated from control, WR-, or VVΔE3L-infected fibroblasts. After overnight culture total RNA was extracted and qRT-PCR used to assay MICA and ULBP2 expression. The data are presented as the means of 3–5 experiments ± S.D.
