In order to identify whether phrase frequency has an effect on the recall of phrases, two parameters can be estimated. First is the p parameter, which measures the likelihood of recalling at least one part of the phrase or the whole phrase (that is, either "alcoholic", or "beverages", or "alcoholic beverages") versus recalling nothing about a phrase. Second is the q parameter, which measures the conditional likelihood of recalling the entire phrase (i.e. "alcoholic beverages") given that something from the phrase (p) has been recalled.
