Growth of S. Dublin 3246 (SD3246) and the derived mutant strain S. Dublin ΔbstA (SDΔbstA) under direct competition in different media: M9 medium (A) and cattle blood (B). The number of viable bacteria was determined by performing serial dilutions, which were plated on LB agar and LB agar supplemented with apramycin, every second hour from 0 to 24 h postinoculation. Data are the means ± SDs from three experiments. Statistical significance was determined by a paired t test.
