Connecting the exposome to the readout of the genome. Given that most major human diseases are genetically complex is it necessary to characterize the extrinsic (environmental) exposures (exposome) and ingestion nutrients (acting through the microbiome) each capable of producing epigenomic modifications that alter the transcriptions in multiple visceral organs and CNS or the gastrointestinal tract (microbiome, innate immune signaling and afferent activation of enteric nervous system). “Figure reprinted from Cell, Volume 157, Issue 1, / Eric J.
