Ultrastructure changes of chief cells in omeprazole-treated rats compared with untreated rats. RER alterations were found in untreated rats as indicated by the presence of cytoplasmic vacuolation and moderate RER dilatation (A and B) while the RER architecture in omeprazole-treated rats was preserved (C, D, G, H, K and L). A severe grade of peculiar dark, dense and dilated RERs accompanied by degenerative mitochondria were observed in non-treated rats at 7 days post-induction (E and F).
