Figure 3.

Effects of quercetin on the expression of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) mRNA in rat retina. (A) Expression levels of MCP-1 mRNA in rat retina. (B) Expression levels of MMP-9 mRNA in rat retina. (C) Expression levels of VEGF mRNA in rat retina. Compared with the control group, expression levels of MCP-1, MMP-9 and VEGF mRNA in the retina were significantly increased in the diabetes group. Compared with the diabetes group, expression levels of MMP-9 and VEGF mRNA were significantly decreased in the quercetin group, but no significant changes in expression levels of MCP-1 were observed. **P<0.01 compared with the control group; ##P<0.01 compared with the diabetes group.
