Serum TH status in adult and old male and female mice under TH excess or deprivation. TT4, FT4, FT3 and TSH serum concentrations were determined by ELISA at the end of T4 or MMI/ClO4−/LoI treatment in sera of adult (a–d) and old (e–h) male and female mice. A distinct sex effect on T4 treatment was obvious by higher TH serum concentrations in female than male mice, whereas hypothyroidism resulted in higher TSH elevation in old female mice only.
