Figure 4

ROS production was blocked in T. vaginalis-treated SiHa cells after pretreatment with N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC). (a and b) Intracellular ROS production was detected by dihydroethidium (DHE) fluorescence. Intracellular ROS levels were concentration-dependently inhibited in T. vaginalis-treated SiHa cells following NAC pretreatment. (c and d) Mitochondrial ROS production was detected by MitoSOX reagent. Mitochondrial ROS production was concentration-dependently prevented in T. vaginalis-treated SiHa cells following NAC pretreatment. The experiment was repeated three times with similar results. Scale bars: 100 μm; P < 0.05 versus SiHa cell control, ∗∗ P < 0.01 versus SiHa cell control.
