Figure 2

Polymer degradation: a) FTIR spectra of co-polymer 1 degrading over time. Co-polymer 1 was degraded in a sodium carbonate-sodium bicarbonate aqueous buffer solution with pH value of 10.6 at 37°C; b) thicknesses of co-polymer 1 degrading over time measured by ellipsometry. Co-polymer 2 (co-polymer of [2.2]para-cyclophane and BMDO) degrading in the same aqueous buffer solution (pH 10.6) is shown for the purpose of comparison; c) expanded ESI-mass spectra of the degradation products of co-polymer 1 after totally degradation (in the mass range m/z 200–500) with identified fragments.
