(A) Clinical features of neovascular inflammatory vitreoretinopathy (NIV), a blinding uveitis, share the hallmarks of many other autoimmune diseases: infiltration by inflammatory cells, edema, neovascularization, and fibrosis. (B) Cytokine-expression profiles of eyes affected by NIV, an autoinflammatory uveitis (4 technical replicates per sample). Hierarchal clustering shows 64 cytokines expressed differentially (P < 0.05) in 8 NIV eyes versus 4 control eyes. Of these cytokines, 3 were downregulated and 61 were upregulated.
