Minocycline reduces microglial activation after traumatic brain injury in post-natal day 17 rats. (A) Rats were randomized to treatment with minocycline (90 mg/kg) or vehicle after controlled cortical impact (CCI) with naïve rats as control. At seven days after injury, animals were sacrificed for immunohistochemistry (n = 3/group). Shown are representative coronal sections at approximately −3.0 to 4.5 mm bregma stained with anti-Iba-1. Insets include higher-magnification image of representative Iba-1 positive microglia. (B) Quantification of Iba-1 positive objects (n = 3/group). Data were analyzed by t test. * p < 0.05 naïve vs. CCI + vehicle. # p < 0.05 CCI + vehicle vs. CCI + minocycline. Graph shows mean + standard error of the mean.
