Examples of subsolid nodules that enclose vessels. (a) Three time points of a growing non-solid nodule. At T2 the non-solid nodule encloses two vessels (indicated by the red arrows) which, if not removed, alter the size and mass of the nodule. Furthermore, these vessels may be mistaken for a solid core which changes the type of the nodule and possibly the patient management. (b) An example of a non-solid and a part-solid nodule and the results of the proposed method. In this example, the detected solid core is shown in red and the detected vessels are shown in blue.
