Affiliative reciprocity predicts corticosterone response to restraint stress. Rats that affiliate more reciprocally in adolescence exhibit lower peak corticosterone concentrations in the 2 hours following a restraint stressor in adulthood (R2 = 0.194; F(1, 47)) = 11.33, p = .0015). Affiliative reciprocity, however, predicted neither baseline (R2 = 0.013, F(1, 47) = 0.63, p = .43) nor recovery (R2 = 0.023, F(1) = 1.09, p = .30) concentrations.
