Distribution of cysteine residues across the A. thaliana kinome. Using the 940 A. thaliana kinases identified in (48), we created a multiple sequence alignment using Clustal Omega (49). Using the region of the alignment corresponding to the BAK1 kinase domain, we calculated the frequencies of cysteine at each alignment position. All four BAK1 cysteine residues are in regions of high cysteine frequency, most notably C353 and C545. However, BAK1 C374 and C408 have nearby alignment positions with high frequency, likely corresponding to comparable positions in the contributing kinases. To see this figure in color, go online.
