The differential relationship of the type of team sport involvement and substance-use behaviors among adolescent boys and girls. For boys, the combination of high social and high physical involvement in team sport was associated with binge drinking, use of smokeless tobacco, and use of cannabis. For girls, high social involvement in team sport was associated with binge drinking, cigarette smoking, use of smokeless tobacco, and use of cannabis. The combination of high social and high physical involvement was only associated with binge drinking.
