Botswana Scope of Practice
  • Conducted and disseminated results from a task sharing survey report, including HIV related tasks, to support the development of a national task sharing policy.

  • Developed a revised scope of practice, which was endorsed by the Permanent Secretary.


Ethiopia Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed eight modules on national guidelines for nursing and midwifery CPD in Ethiopia, as well as a corresponding training manual with participant and facilitator guides and slide sets.


Kenya Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed nursing and midwifery pediatric HIV management competency framework and instruction manual for facilitation of related CPDs.

  • Validated the Pediatric HIV CPD module with national stakeholders.


Lesotho Continuing Professional Development
  • Implemented national training for CPD focal persons on HIV guidelines and policies related to antenatal care, followed by regional meetings and facility-based training workshops.

  • Established standards to support operationalization of logbooks to meet CPD licensure renewal requirements.


Mozambique Licensure
  • Completed assessment of the preservice nursing training and examination process; used assessment finding to recommend improvements to preservice educational system.

  • Developed and piloted the Observed Structural Clinical Examination for the PMTCT Option B+ component for the national examination of general and maternal child health nurses.

  • Received a legal mandate to establish a Council for Nurses in Mozambique through parliamentary approval of a law to establish a nursing and midwifery regulatory body.


Rwanda Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed a NIMART module for nurses and midwives in HIV and AIDS care for pre- and in-service training, including validation with stakeholders, field testing, and final revisions.


Seychelles Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed a national nursing and midwifery CPD framework, designating mandatory content and featuring monitoring and evaluation and implementation plans.

  • Incorporated HIV and AIDS certification into the national CPD framework.

Scope of Practice
  • Finalized the development of a national scope of practice for nurses and midwives (e.g., generalists, specialists) in HIV and AIDS care.


South Africa Accreditation
  • HIV/TB professional, ethical, and legal competencies were developed for inclusion into the national nursing council competency framework.


Tanzania Licensure
  • Updated the national entry-to-practice licensing examination with questions on NIMART, PMTCT Option B+, and pediatric HIV aligned with the national guidelines.

Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed modules for the national CPD program on HIV testing and counselling, stigma and discrimination, comprehensive clinical management, PMTCT Option B+ and pediatric HIV.

Scope of Practice
  • Incorporated NIMART responsibilities into the national HIV task sharing policy.


Zambia Continuing Professional Development
  • Developed national CPD accreditation guidelines, logbooks, and frameworks, including HIV and AIDS courses.

  • Piloted a CPD tracking system for nurses and midwives, including training of coordinators.


Zimbabwe Continuing Professional Development
  • Implemented training across three districts in order to increase the number of nurses and midwives trained in the initiation of ART, HIV management, and care of clients, with a particular focus on pediatric HIV.
