Level 1 predictors were the six basic emotion categories within which FACS expression scores were calculated. Categories were dummy-coded such that the target emotion category (the emotion category that matched the emotional episode as reported by children; i.e., joy category for joy episode model) served as the reference group in all models. Each model contained five dummy-coded predictors corresponding to the non-target emotion categories (γ01, γ02, γ03, γ04, and γ05, respectively). Significant coefficients (p < .05) noted in bold. Marginally significant coefficients (p < .10) noted by †.
