Schematic explanation of indirect evidence of thrombus migration (TM) in the M1 segment of the MCA by means of different infarct patterns. Columns I in (a)–(c) represent the angiographic findings in DSA (upper panel) and the expected infarct patterns (lower panel) in follow-up imaging with respect to the occluded lenticulostriate arteries without TM. Columns II and III demonstrate infarct patterns that were found due to TM. The pale schematic angiographic illustrations show the probable thrombus positions prior to TM. Note that the Globus pallidus does not contribute to the presented scheme but may be involved in the infarct area.
