Damage increases with increasing stretch and decreases with increasing stretch rate. Damage is initiated during loading, λ˙>0(left), and continues to accumulate during holding, λ˙=0 (right). As the cross-links remain stretched during holding, λ>1, the cross-link detachment rate is greater than the attachment rate, resulting in an overall increase in damage.
