Symptoms induced by eliminating Fd I production. (A) Chlorosis symptoms on plants in which Fd I was silenced with a TRV-based virus-induced gene silencing system. The symptoms were similar to those induced by CMV-M on Nicotiana benthamiana plants. Additionally, there were no obvious symptoms on plants carrying the empty TRV vector. (B) Accumulation of Fd I in mock-, TRV-, and TRV-FdI–inoculated samples, as determined by western blot analysis, with plant actin as a control.
