Pictorial Abstract. A schematic summary showing SAHA or TSA inhibits the HDACs 1, 7 and 8 expression/activity by enhancing the cellular accumulation of acetylated histones H3 and H4, as well as methylated lysine 4 tail of histone H3, which subsequently lead to a disbalance in EMT factors in favor of the benign epithelial phenotype, inhibition of cancer metastasis and/or invasion, loss of cancer stemness, increased sensitivity to chemotherapy and better prognosis.
