a

Small RNA libraries from each individual were barcoded, pooled, and sequencing was performed on three lanes of a SOLiD™ 6-Lane FlowChip using the SOLiD 5500xl sequencer. The amount of sequences presented here is the sum of raw reads from the three lanes.

b

These reads had adapter removed and were quality filtered. They differ only according to the size filtering.

c

Reads (≥23 nt) aligned to the reference genome and filtered for piRNA sequence signatures (1 U and 10 A).
