Survival of Sulfolobus monocaudavirus 1 (SMV1) particles. The infectivity of SMV1 after incubation at 37°C in 50% DMSO, 50% EtOH, simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) pH 6·5, and Simulated gastric fluid (SGF) pH 1·6. Incubation in 10 mmol l⁻¹ Tris-acetate pH 6·0 was monitored as a reference at two temperatures; 4°C and 37°C. The number of plaque forming units per millilitre (plaque forming units (PFU) per ml) was determined by plaque assay and is shown as a function of time in hours.
