The mean chain length and EO fraction were calculated excluding ceramides NS C44 and EOS C66. The the wavenumber in cm−1 of the stretching peak position was calculated using the center of gravity at 90% peak height. As fixed factors stripped, treated, and depth were used. The intercept was the control site at a depth of 5–8 tape-strips or for spectra of tapes 2–10.
