Lipid composition of the reticulon mutants rtn19 and rtn20 and rescue lines. (A) Sterols and the major phospholipids phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) from roots and leaves of two week-old seedlings (wild type, mutant lines rtn20 and rtn19, and rescue line) were quantified. Data was obtained from 3 independent experiments by HPTLC coupled to densitometry. Sterol, PC and PE amounts were determined as µg/g FW, the values for the control roots and leaves were normalized to 100 and the corresponding values for the mutant and rescue lines were calculated accordingly. (B) The ratios between sterols to PC + PE content are indicated for the different lines.
