Anatomy of soybean nodules. Nodules collected at 15 days after infection were thick-sectioned and viewed under light microscope (A,B). For ultrastructral observation thin-sections were examined by electron microscopy (C,D). Note the cells from non-transformed wild-type nodules are filled with bacteria (A,C) while the cells from OASS overexpressing transgenic nodule are not completely filled by bacteria (B,D). Also note the presence of prominent starch grains in the cells of from OASS overexpressing transgenic nodule (D).
