Path C represents the variance in the level of cognitive insight that is associated with the subjective QOL ((A) vitality or (B) mental health) level, and Path C′ represents the association between the level of cognitive insight and subjective QOL after taking into account right frontotemporal function as a mediator. When right frontotemporal function was included in the model, the direct effect of cognitive insight (self-reflectiveness) on subjective QOL (dashed line) (left: vitality, right: mental health) was no longer significant, indicating a fully mediated effect. Path AB is the mediation effect and is significant at p < 0.05 based on confidence intervals from bias-corrected bootstrapping of 5,000 samples.
