Abbreviation: WS, within-subject.

Note: Model 1 tests the association between within-subject P/E ratios and outcomes controlling for patch, time, patch × time, and relevant covariates. Model 2 tests interactive effects of within-subject P/E ratios and patch on smoking and withdrawal-related outcomes and within-subject P/E ratios and time interactions on withdrawal-related outcomes. Model 3 tests the three-way interaction of within-subject P/E ratios, patch, and time on withdrawal-related outcomes. Models 1–3 included the following covariates: Black (coded 0=Black, 1=Other), years regular smoker, cigarettes per day, number past quit attempts, FTND, session phase, and between-subject P/E ratios. Patch coded 0=0 mg nicotine, 1=21 mg nicotine. **p<0.003, ***p<0.001.
