Electrode heaters (b, left inset) are patterned onto the bottom glass layer and spotted with the sol-gel. The pneumatic layer controls the valves between reaction chambers to prevent cross-contamination during elution, while the remaining layers contain the main fluidic network. With valves open, sample is flowed through the reaction chambers to incubate with each sol-gel droplet, followed by washing to remove non-specific binders.
