Figure 2.

The Bam complex catalyzes the efficient assembly of EspPΔ5 into proteoliposomes that vary in lipid composition. A, urea-denatured EspPΔ5 was incubated with SurA and proteoliposomes that contained the Bam complex and the indicated lipids for 30 min at 30 °C. The folding/self-cleavage of the protein was monitored by Western blotting using an antiserum raised against a C-terminal EspP peptide. Representative results are shown. B, quantitation of the efficiency of EspPΔ5 folding into proteoliposomes that contain different lipids. Folding assays that used each type of proteoliposome were repeated at least five times. A diamond denotes the mean of each data set, and boxes indicate the 25th to 75th percentiles. Vertical lines indicate data points that lie outside of these percentiles and show the full range of folding efficiencies.
