Chelation of iron in the preculture medium preserves the respiratory capacity of mmf1Δ mutants. A ρ⁺ mmf1Δ mutant strain was generated and propagated on YPG medium. Individual colonies from each preculture plate were streaked to YPD or YPD medium containing 10 µM BPS. After 48 h, three colonies were restreaked (alongside similarly precultured ρ⁺ wild-type cultures) on YPG or YPD medium to assess the impact of BPS on maintenance of respiratory capacity during growth on rich dextrose medium.
