Viability of C. difficile (ATCC 43596) spores treated with the MraY inhibitors, 9, 10, and 11, and representative anti-C. difficile drugs. The spores treated with molecules (2× or 5× MIC) in a BHI medium or saline (24 h) were plated on a BHI agar plate containing sodium taurocholate and incubated anaerobically for 48 h. Vancomycin, metronidazole, and linezolid were treated with 5× MIC, and 9, 10, and 11 were treated with 2× MIC. Germinated spores were counted (CFUs) (p ≤ 0.05).
