Exosomes: extracellular vesicles with an endosomal origin. Endosomes are packaged into MVBs, which are trafficked either to the cell membrane for secretion (cholesterol-rich) or to lysosomes (cholesterol-poor) for degradation. MVBs fuse with the cell membrane to release exosomes.
