Validation of the protective efficacities in a lethal doses S. aureus peritonitis model. Female BALB/c mice (n = 10) were peritoneally challenged with (A) S. aureus Newman (8 × 108 CFUs), (B) S. aureus Wood46 (1 × 108 CFUs) and (C) S. aureus HLJ 23-1 (5 × 108 CFUs) after immunization. (D) Immunotherapy, MntC-vaccinated mice 1 h after S. aureus Newman (8 × 108 CFUs) infection. Survival rates were daily monitored and recorder for 14 days, and compared to animals treated with PBS. Significant differences were indicated by (*P < 0.05), (**P < 0.01) and (***P < 0.001).
