A 2 nt deletion within the ORF3 coding region of the APHA strain produces a new termination codon (TAA, boxed) and hence the ORF3 protein is predicted to be severely truncated (see text). A 3 nt deletion in the FLI sequence should result in the loss of a single amino acid but since the initiation codon of ORF3 is lost in this virus (see Fig 2) then this change is unlikely to have any consequence.
