The proteins which aggregate in mRNA surveillance pathways are similar to the proteins which aggregate during nascent protein misfolding and ageing. Comparison of the aggregated proteins present in the Common-set and mRNA surveillance mutant sets with other datasets including proteins that aggregate during postmitotic ageing in yeast³⁰, proteins that aggregate during AZC stress¹⁰, proteins that aggregate during hydrogen peroxide stress¹⁰, proteins that aggregate during heat-shock³³ and mRNAs that are increased greater than two-fold in a upf2 mutant compared with a wild-type strain³⁴. Numbers in brackets indicate the size of each dataset. The significance of overlaps was determined by a hypergeometric test. Blue: p < 0.05, green: p < 0.01, red: p < 0.001.
