Hyperglycaemia-induced, matrix-specific EMT phenotypic properties are not confounded by osmolarity. Changes to the hyperglycaemia-induced, matrix-specific EMT phenotype following incubation of MCF-7 cells with an osmotic control (5 mM glucose supplemented to 25 mM with mannitol) medium were assessed by (a) western blot analysis of EMT markers, (b) direct count of viable cells in a hemocytometer and (c) transwell invasion assay. In all cases, results shown are representative of three independent experiments, each performed in triplicate and are expressed as means of ±SEM.
