Aggregation of α-synuclein. Although worms do not possess an ortholog of α-synuclein it is possible to study α-synuclein by expressing α-synuclein linked to a fluorescent proteion, such as YFP, with a body wall muscle specific promoter such as unc-54. While expression of YFP alone results in diffuse expression throughout the body wall muscle, the presence of α-synuclein results in the formation of aggregates.
