Current smokers were defined as those who smoked at least one cigarette per day in the past 6 months.
Current drinkers were those who drank hard liquor, beer or wine at least once per week during the past 6 months.
Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mmHg or diastolic ≥ 90 mmHg, or self-reported treatment for hypertension.
Type 2 diabetes was recorded if participants were on anti-diabetic medications or if their baseline fasting plasma glucose(FPG) was high (≥ 7.0 mmol/l) at the time of cohort entry.
Hyperlipidaemia were defined as: TG ≥ 1.70 mmol/l (150 mg/dl), or HDL-C < 0.9 mmol/l (35 mg/dl) in men and < 1.0 mmol/l (39 mg/dl) in women.
