CDDP-sensitive cells mainly express CD44 variant forms, thereby maintaining epithelial status. During acquisition of CDDP resistance, switching from CD44v to CD44s and elevated expression of PS1 induces the generation of the CD44 intracellular domain (CD44ICD). CD44ICD then promotes ZEB1-mediated EMT by suppressing miR-200c.
