The primary diet treatments were a total mixed ration with 12% forage (low roughage) or 100% Sudan grass hay (high roughage). Ingredient composition is listed on an as-fed basis. Chemical analysis and energy calculations were performed by Cumberland Valley Analytical Services, Hagerstown, MD, U.S.A. using the formulas of Weiss [20] and NRC [21].
