1934 Foundation of the University of São Paulo, with a decided focus in science.
1951 Foundation of the National Research Council (Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa, CNPq) and the Coordination for the Higher Training of University Personnel (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, CAPES).
1955 Foundation of the SBG (Sociedade Brasileira de Genética).
1960 Creation of São Paulo’s Foundation for Research Aid (FAPESP), soon followed by similar institutions in the different states of Brazil.
1973 Foundation of the Brazilian Company of Agricultural Research (EMBRAPA).
1978 Foundation of the Brazilian Journal of Genetics (Revista Brasileira de Genética).
