a

In each linear regression, we controlled for sex, age, and race/ethnicity. We included fixed effects for state and year and clustered standard errors by school and by classroom. We included the full regression tables for each analysis in eTables 3 and 4 in the Supplement.

b

Percentages are weighted to be representative of the state population of high school students by student sex, grade, and race/ethnicity.

c

P < .05.

d

The sample size includes students who identified as straight as well as those who identified as sexual minorities in states that collected data on sexual orientation. The analysis of sexual minority adolescents was based on interacting a term for state same-sex marriage implementation and adolescents identifying as sexual minorities. The full results can be found in eTable 4 in the Supplement.
