A comparison between the three different groups (anodal, cathodal and sham) after stimulation revealed different significant effects. The comparison between cathodal and sham stimulation showed a significant difference for the theta frequency band (F = 2.83, p < 0.05) (see Fig. 7). This analysis showed increased activity overlaying the rostral anterior cingulate cortex extending into the pregenual anterior cingulate cortex, ventromedial prefrontal cortex, and orbitofrontal cortex and to a smaller extend to the posterior cingulate cortex after cathodal stimulation in comparison to sham stimulation. No significant effect was obtained for the delta, alpha1, alpha2, beta1, beta2, beta3, and gamma frequency band.
