Viability of cells inside of 3D microstructures. Cells were stained by the LIVE/DEAD Viability/Cytotoxicity kit, and living and dead cells were distinguished by green and red colours, respectively. (a–c) The co-cultured cells inside 3D microstructures were alive during the first 3 days. (d) On the 4^th day, several dead cells were detected (arrows).
