The CD₅₀ of Enterococcus faecalis wound infection is 10¹ colony forming units (CFU). Male C57BL/6 mice were wounded and infected with E faecalis OG1RF with inocula of 5.8 × 10¹ (circle), 6.2 × 10² (square), 6.6 × 10³ (triangle), or 2.8 × 10⁶ (inverted triangle) CFU. Wounds were harvested at 24 hours postinoculation and the recovered bacteria enumerated. Each point represents one mouse, and the solid horizontal lines indicate the median. The horizontal dashed line indicates the limit of detection; n = 5.
