The CD50 of Enterococcus faecalis wound infection is 101 colony forming units (CFU). Male C57BL/6 mice were wounded and infected with E faecalis OG1RF with inocula of 5.8 × 101 (circle), 6.2 × 102 (square), 6.6 × 103 (triangle), or 2.8 × 106 (inverted triangle) CFU. Wounds were harvested at 24 hours postinoculation and the recovered bacteria enumerated. Each point represents one mouse, and the solid horizontal lines indicate the median.
